Janelle Arielle Belvedere was born on June 7, 1986, in Bordeaux, France, to much festivity, only due to her prominent family. Her father, French hotel tycoon François Belvedere, had only just married his long-time girlfriend, American chef Kelly Jones, the prior Christmas, knowing that their first child was on the way. However, despite the happiness and celebration surrounding Janelle’s birth, a dark cloud was cast over the event; Kelly, who had suffered small hemorrhages before, underwent severe blood loss in childbirth and had passed away within two days.

Brokenhearted, François took his infant daughter to America to be raised by her mother's family; he had never been a particularly family-oriented person, and now, left with a baby he hadn't intended on having for a good few years and no wife to help raise it, he could not handle the pressure. The memory of Kelly was too fresh in his mind, and he set off to enhance his business and create a stable life and inheritance for his daughter. Janelle therefore grew up not quite knowing her father, but always receiving letters, money and gifts from foreign locations, as well as pictures to recognize him by.

Despite the somewhat tumultuous nature of her infancy, Janelle grew up in a very stable household, mothered mostly by her aunt, Emma, and treated like a princess by her three, much-older male cousins. It was apparent from a very young age that she was a very precocious and intelligent child, having inherited her father's natural brightness and mind for business, as well as her mother's artistry. Emma had a middle-class income on which to raise her niece and three sons, but François contributed huge amounts of money towards the upbringing of his daughter and nephews to show his gratitude.

By sixteen, Janelle had matured into a beautiful, albeit quietly talented, young woman. Her interests did not lie in business, as her father had not-so-secretly hoped, but she did pick up a knack for the culinary arts as her mother had, though her primary career goal was to be a dermatologist like how she wants to say it. When it came time to choose a college, she had her heart set on Johnson & Wales University College of Culinary Arts and applied early decision, only to be turned down completely. Hurt and belittled, for she knew that she was capable of such a caliber school, Janelle spitefully chose her relatively last choice school; Seattle Culinary Academy. Surprisingly, however, she soon fell in love with Seattle University, where the school was located, and neighboring Seattle. Now in her senior year, Janelle has rented an apartment in the city and commutes to school; she appreciates the urban life very much and is looking to intern somewhere in Seattle to pursue her chosen career or maybe dab into the whole culinary arts scene.
